First seen by many DJs worldwide in 1991 during DJ Q-bert’s DMC routine, the Echo Scratch brought something new to the art form. Unlike most scratches that use the crossfader, the Echo is performed using the volume fader. Dirty Digits lays out how to do an Echo Scratch, gradually bringing down the fader during each scratch, giving you the ability to add a stylish exit to songs and routines.

  1. The first time you heard it was 1991? I’m no rap historian but I think it was 1985 when the group called Houdini had a song that was literally called “echo scratch”

  2. Awesome video Dirty Digits, man, you really explain these skratch techniks insanely perfect. I spoke with ya once on the phone some months back, & you were wicked cool, I appreciate you explaining how the Scratch Academy works, & how to get involved. I’ve been practicing since then, & im starting to be able to pull off some cool skratches now, its so fun man, especially when you see yourself finally hitting some of them patterns down correctly, & fluently. I know I definitely gotta work on using the volume faders more, & involve them more into my sessions. It sounds dope, & really adds flavor to the practice sessions or performances. I hope your doing well, & staying safe brotha. Thank you so much for your well explained tutorials my friend. We’re all very lucky to have you OGs showing the ropes to this amazing craft, & im friggin hooked now!.. lol… Respex brotha, til next time…. 🔥💯👍🙏🎶🎶
